What To Expect

Welcome to Cedar Psychology, your safe space to explore your mental health concerns and challenges.

We understand that therapy can feel like a daunting journey. Our goal is to provide a compassionate and supportive environment where you can explore, grow, and heal. Here’s a bit of what you can expect when you join us on your therapeutic journey.

Understanding Therapy

Psychotherapy requires active effort and commitment. It’s a process that involves discussing the more challenging aspects of your life. This can bring up a range of emotions, such as anger, sadness, or loneliness. However, it’s important to remember that these feelings are a natural part of the healing process.

While therapy can stir up uncomfortable emotions, it also offers numerous benefits. Many find that therapy leads to better relationships, solutions to specific problems, and a significant reduction in distress. Yet, each person’s experience in therapy is unique, and there are no guaranteed outcomes.

The Therapeutic Journey

Our sessions are 50 minutes long and ideally occur once a week. This helps us maintain momentum and supports optimal therapeutic change. Remember, a scheduled appointment requires a 24-hour cancellation notice to avoid a 100% fee charge.

The first 2-3 sessions are dedicated to a thorough intake and evaluation process. This is where you’ll share your goals, expectations, and preferences. It’s also a time for us to ensure we’re a good match for working together.

Our therapeutic process is divided into two phases: Assessment and Therapy. The assessment phase covers the initial sessions and focuses on understanding your goals and forming a collaborative plan. In the therapy phase, we delve deeper into your experiences, offering support and guidance as you navigate your path to personal growth.

We offer the convenience of direct claims from your medical aid at standard rates, or you can opt for cash payments via card (Visa and Mastercard) or EFT.

Creating a Safe Space

Our priority is to provide a supportive and safe environment. Whether you’re navigating mental health struggles or seeking personal growth, we’re here to help you explore patterns that may be affecting your mental health and well-being. Therapy can be uncomfortable, but it’s a necessary step towards healing.
